Keith E. Butler
A partner in the firm, Keith E. Butler concentrates his practice on matters involving first party property insurance coverage and litigation.Â In addition, Mr. Butler has substantial experience in commercial litigation involving contract disputes and the negotiation and drafting of commercial retail leases.
Mr. Butler has represented a variety of primary and excess insurers under all-risk, builderâ€™s risk, and manuscript policy forms.Â He has provided coverage advice for damage arising out of catastrophes including the California wildfires of 2004 and 2007, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.Â Mr. Butler has also successfully litigated a number of high exposure matters, including the defense of insurers against a claim brought by an energy company for damage and business interruption arising out of the California power crisis of 2000 â€“ 2001.
Mr. Butler has litigated numerous cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States.Â He has experience in all facets of litigation including discovery, motion practice, trial, and alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Butler was an Assistant Stateâ€™s Attorney at the Cook County Stateâ€™s Attorneyâ€™s Office and also worked for the Cook County Department of Capital Planning & Policy.
Mr. Butler earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado/Boulder in 1987 and his J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law in 1990.
Mr. Butler is authorized to practice law in California at both the federal and state levels.Â In addition, Mr. Butler is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Butler is a member of the California Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association.
