Overview
A partner in the firm, Brian Devilling concentrates his practice in first-party property insurance disputes, general civil defense litigation and commercial litigation. Brian has handled matters in thirty states, and has tried cases around the country on matters involving insurance coverage, medical malpractice, medical devices, employment, product liability and construction. His first-party property practice is focused on appraisal, cyber/data breach, arson and fraud, builder’s risk and storm-related losses.
Brian serves as a Vice-Chair for the ABA Committee on Property Insurance Law. He has given presentations and lectures to in-house risk managers, insurance companies and insurance organizations on topics ranging from appraisal to arson and fraud investigation to accident investigation. He has written articles on cyber losses, property insurance appraisal, arson and fraud investigation, accident investigation, trial practice and the rules of evidence.

Brian is a member of the Chicago Bar Association.

Since 2021, Brian has been named a Leading Lawyer by Law Bulletin Media, a peer-recommended distinction awarded to less than 5% of attorneys in Illinois.

Community Leadership
Brian is faculty for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and served as an Adjunct Professor of Advocacy and a head coach for trial teams at Loyola University Chicago School of Law from 2003 to 2010 and 2012 to 2016. While in law school, Brian was a National Champion at the 2000 William Daniel National Mock Trial Competition and Midwest Regional Champion at the 2000 Association of Trial Lawyers of America Student Trial Advocacy Competition.
Education
Brian earned his B.A. degree in Political Science and English from the University of Michigan in 1999 and his J.D. degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2002.

Brian is authorized to practice law in Illinois and in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Colorado, Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, Eastern District of Wisconsin, Western District of Oklahoma, Northern District of Ohio and Eastern District of Texas.
