Overview
Kara Haywood concentrates her practice in general commercial litigation. She has experience drafting and filing pleadings, motions and other documents; preparing case files for discovery and trial; executing complex legal research related to insurance defense, medical malpractice, subrogation, construction and product liability as well as assisting attorneys in all facets of the litigation process.
Prior to becoming an associate at Foran Glennon, Kara gained experience serving as a summer associate with the firm in 2023. She also worked as a law clerk and in-house counsel extern for Chicago real estate and personal injury law firms as well as a real estate investment trust company. In these roles, she aided attorneys in deposition preparation, case-specific discovery, drafting and responding to motions and was exposed to matters involving mesothelioma and asbestos litigation and real estate transaction including zoning/survey certifications.
Community Leadership
Kara is a volunteer with the American Heart Association, Make-a-Wish and was a student volunteer for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She has also participated in Costa Rica mission trips in which she participated in childcare and education.
Education
Kara earned her J.D. from University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 2024 after completing her B.B.A. in Marketing and Spanish from the University of Kentucky in 2021, where she received departmental honors in both fields.
While in law school, Kara was an administrative editor of the UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law, a teaching assistant, the secretary of the Real Estate Students Group and a member of the Corporate Law and Intellectual Property societies.
