Overview

James (Jim) Knibbs is Of Counsel at the firm and brings a broad array of litigation experience to the firm, including commercial litigation, insurance coverage, large loss subrogation, casualty defense, civil rights defense, white-collar criminal and employment claims. Jim has also conducted internal investigations for Fortune 100 companies and governmental entities. Jim previously served as one of the top prosecutors with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, heading the white-collar crime unit and prosecuting complex financial crimes.

Jim’s results include a $26 million subrogation recovery arising out of a utility plant collapse; several million-dollar plus subrogation recoveries; a $1million-plus settlement for his clients in a fraudulent land sale involving a Chicago college, numerous successful arson, fraud and other coverage matters, a not guilty verdict in a U.S.C. Section 1983 on behalf of nine Chicago Police Officers; and the successful defense of a State Representative in a defamation trial. Jim was an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for several years at Loyola University (Chicago) Law School.

Jim is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the National Association of Distinguished Counsel.

Jim has been named a Leading Lawyer by Law Bulletin Media, a peer-recommended distinction awarded to fewer than 5% of attorneys in Illinois.

Jim has a Martindale-Hubbell AV Distinguished® peer rating, indicating a high ranking in legal ability and ethical standards as determined by his peers in the legal community.

Education

Jim earned his B.S. degree in Business and Administration from Southern Illinois University in 1982 and his J.D. degree with honors from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1985.
