Overview

Daniel James concentrates his practice on insurance coverage and complex commercial litigation. He has experience working with clients on nationwide high‑exposure insurance disputes, product liability matters, multi‑jurisdictional litigation strategy, and a variety of tort matters.

Daniel advises insurers in complex insurance disputes, evaluating coverage positions, drafting key litigation filings, preparing discovery strategies, and managing cases from initial pleadings through trial preparation.

Prior to joining Foran Glennon, Daniel served as national coordinating counsel for a Fortune 100 company in managing cases involving alleged asbestos exposures in over thirty states. Daniel also has prior experience as coverage counsel, advising insurers in complex insurance disputes under several lines, including commercial general liability, commercial property, cyber, commercial automotive, D&O, and professional liability. Before law, he served as a Legislative Aide in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he contributed to the passage of more than 30 bills during the 130th–132nd General Assemblies.

Daniel is a member of the Chicago Bar and Illinois State Bar Associations.

Education

Daniel earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2022 after completing his B.A. in Aviation Management in 2012 from The Ohio State University.

While in law school, Daniel gained valuable experience as a Law Clerk at a municipal law firm in Chicago and a Court Extern for the 19th Judicial District Court of Illinois. At the University of Illinois, he also served as President of the Black Law Students Association, Associate Editor of the Midwest Journal of Law and Policy, and Vice President of the Education Law and Policy Society.
