John Eggum Elected as an Officer of the Illinois Defense Counsel; Will serve as President in 2031

Foran Glennon is proud to announce Shareholder John Eggum has been elected to an Officer position with the Illinois Defense Counsel (IDC), a statewide organization representing defense attorneys and advancing the interests of the defense bar. This designation will result in John assuming the presidency in 2031, following his progression through the Officer ranks, starting with the role of Secretary-Treasurer.

The appointment comes after nearly a decade of service on the IDC’s Board of Directors, during which time he has served in leadership capacities including chairing the Legislative Committee and editing the organization’s publications. His nomination was supported by a group of past IDC Presidents and current Executive Committee members.

Founded in 1964, the IDC represents nearly 500 members and has maintained a national reputation for more than 60 years of advancing the defense bar’s interests. John is committed to supporting the organization’s mission of ensuring civil justice with integrity, civility, and professional competence and looks forward to bringing his years of leadership experience to the role.

John litigates property insurance claims (including builder’s risk and energy claims) around the country, including in lawsuits where bad faith and claim handling disputes are at issue. In jury trials, bench decisions and other aspects of property litigation, he has established a strong track record of success for insurers facing significant contractual and extracontractual exposure. Additionally, he is a frequent speaker at insurance industry events, including on topics of, property loss causation, delay-in-startup measurement in the builder’s risk context, appraisal, and claim handling practices.
